Bathurst – the Great Race magazine is the definitive pre-event guide to the Repco Bathurst 1000.
There’s nothing bigger than the Bathurst 1000 on the domestic Australian motorsport scene. It’s car racing’s Melbourne Cup, the motorsport equivalent of the AFL and NRL grand finals. For the drivers, victory in this race alone amounts to a successful season. Win the one big one on the Mountain and it doesn’t much matter what happened in all the other races combined.
It’s the same for the car manufacturers involved – and this year there is a third player chasing Bathurst glory, with Toyota having entered Supercars racing for 2026. The stylish Supra has already tasted victory in the sprint rounds this year – but can Toyota do it on the Mountain at its first attempt? Not that Toyota hasn’t been to Bathurst before. The Japanese car maker was there right back in the early 1960s, and over many years’ participation went on to enjoy plenty of smaller car class success.
Bathurst – the Great Race this year looks back at Toyota’s often-overlooked Bathurst heritage. It’s a race that’s steeped in history, but it’s set to be fought out by what’s probably the youngest group of drivers ever in the race. Rising young stars like Ryan Wood and Kai Allen, among others, are not simply the future – they’ve already arrived. Will one of them become first-time Bathurst winners in 2026?
Last year marked the death of Bathurst legend Allan Moffat. Bathurst – the Great Race pays tribute to Moffat and his legacy – together with arch-rival Peter Brock and the battles they fought, Moffat helped shape the race into what it is today. It is hard to imagine the Great Race as we know it without Moffat. As an event that dates right back to 1960, the Bathurst race is steeped in history. This year’s Bathurst – the Great Race looks back on some of the magical moments that made the race so great.
